FOUNDATION OF PLANT IN TUTTILINGEN.
1696 marked a significant milestone in the early years of SHW's growth with the establishment of their first and purpose built plant in Tuttlingen, Germany.
THE BIRTHPLACE OF SHW.
SHW (parent company of the performance division) has a proud history and is one of few companies in the world who can trace it's roots back over an incredible 650 years to 1365!
SHW initially began extracting iron ore and carrying out smelting activities around the area of Konigsbronn,
Germany which marked the birthplace of both the plant and SHW (Schwabische Huttenwerke, translates to Swabian Smelting Works).
A MILESTONE IN VEHICLE DESIGN AND MATERIALS.
Often overlooked, 1925 saw SHW release a prototype car which was decades ahead in terms of its design and construction.
The vehicle featured a lightweight aluminium chassis, aluminium body panels and independent suspension, many of which would not been seen in production vehicles for another twenty years!
JOINT DEVELOPMENT WITH PORSCHE.
September 1964 was the worlds first glimpse at what would become an overnight success and long term legend in the Performance Car market, the Porsche 911.
The 911 had it all; performance, handling, reliability and of course incredible curves that offered a timeless appeal.
It was around this time that both SHW and Porsche came together to develop the first internal ventilated brake disc, appearing as early as 1966 on the 911 S.

In 1993 SHW and BMW began joint development of the first ever 'Pin-Disc Brake Rotor' for Motorsport.
PIN DRIVE PRODUCTION BEGINS.
From first concept in 1993, SHW brings what was originally a motorsport derived product to the road car market.
2008 saw SHW invest in a new line and tooling so as to produce 'Pin Drive Brake Disc Rotors' for production vehicles which would also include the casting of an aluminium bell.
